It only takes a few seconds to make a first impression, and confidence can greatly impact that impression, especially in work-related and romantic personal connections.  People evaluate verbal and non-verbal cues in order to quickly formulate impressions and do so without even realizing it.  The top three non-verbal cues you share with others are your attitude, posture and, of course, your smile.  A big smile will portray that you are friendly, approachable and secure with your appearance.

Porcelain Veneers For A Brilliant Smile

If you are looking to build confidence with a more attractive smile but have put off going to the dentist to discuss cosmetic dentistry options because of the pain that you think is associated with extractions and drilling, ask your dentist if porcelain veneers are right for you.  In most cases, you will be able to walk out of your dentist’s office complete with a brand new brilliant smile in just two office visits and without having experienced any pain at all.

Dental veneers are a good option for the cosmetic correction of many dental issues, including teeth that are chipped, damaged, discolored, misaligned or misshaped.  They are designed to recreate the look of natural teeth and are often chosen in order to correct tooth position, gaps and teeth that are too short.  Porcelain veneers have a reflective quality that closely mimics the look of natural teeth, therefore making them a popular choice for patients who require restoration to just some of their teeth, especially those positioned in the top front of the mouth.

Porcelain veneers are made from thin porcelain layers which are created and shaped to fit over the front of your existing teeth. Since they are custom-made, your dentist will need to take an impression of your teeth before creating the individual tooth covers. Once made, the dentist will check for proper color, shape and size and make any needed adjustments.

Since they in essence cover your original teeth, your dentist will need to remove a thin layer of enamel from each tooth in order to accommodate the new facades. This will help retain the look of your natural teeth without making them appear overly thick or bulky. Also, the natural teeth are slightly etched in order to provide a surface that is more apt to adhere to the bonding agent between the natural tooth and the veneer.  Although this step generally doesn’t hurt, some dental professionals will offer to administer a local anesthetic or sleep sedation to calm a patient’s nerves and provide reassurance of a pain-free experience.

Once fabricated, the porcelain veneers are bonded to each tooth individually with a light-sensitive resin compound and a curing light is used to activate the bonding material and create a solid attachment.  The dentist will check for imperfections, make sure that your bite is aligned properly and make adjustments as needed.  After the procedure is complete, it will allow you to face the world with a new sense of confidence emanating from your winning smile.
