When it comes to teeth, there’s nothing quite like a set of bright, lustrous teeth that are free from imperfections such as staining or chipping.  Unfortunately, not all of us are lucky enough to enjoy such an unmarred set of pearly whites, but for those whose teeth leave something to be desired, cosmetic dental bonding may be the answer to achieving a more beautiful smile.

Dental Bonding For Beautiful Smile

Considered as one of the most economical solutions when it comes to enhancing the beauty of your teeth, cosmetic bonding is also a relatively easy procedure to have performed.  Unlike other procedures that may require more invasive techniques, the bonding procedure simply requires the application of a tooth-colored composite resin material to the teeth that can then be molded, shaped and polished to look just like natural tooth enamel.

The procedure requires just a single office visit and can be performed without the use of anesthesia, so it is not only quick, but it is painless.  This technique may be the perfect solution for those who have stained teeth that do not respond to a tooth whitening treatment, as well as those that have minor chips or cracks.  The procedure can also be done to even out the size of teeth and to correct imperfect spacing between teeth.

Another use for tooth bonding material is as a filling material for cavities.  The tooth colored composite resin material is used in place of older filling materials, such as silver amalgam, to strengthen a tooth in which areas of decay have been removed.  The end result is a strong filling that can withstand the impact of chewing and biting, while also keeping teeth looking their best.  In fact, since the composite material is perfectly matched to the surrounding tooth color, it is virtually impossible to tell whether a filling even exists in a tooth.

Although dental bonding can greatly enhance the appearance of teeth at a lower cost than other types of cosmetic or restorative procedures, it is not always the best option.  Other options, such as porcelain veneers or dental crowns are stronger and generally longer lasting than bonding, but they are also more expensive and require more of the natural tooth structure to be removed during the procedure.  Another disadvantage to bonding as compared to these other cosmetic options is that it is not as resistant to staining.

Most dentists recommend this type of cosmetic procedure for areas where only small imperfections need to be covered up or for areas where the bite pressure is low (such as on the front teeth).  It is also a good temporary option for enhancing the look of the teeth while trying to decide if more complex procedures will be done down the road.  However, for many individuals, cosmetic dental bonding can be a strong, long-lasting option for enhancing the beauty of teeth without breaking the bank.
